Pennys Road - @pennysroadfarm
From the moment we arrived, to the moment we left Penny’s Road we can say it was an experience we will never forget. If you are looking for a farm stay and you love quality food and wine, this is for you. We found Penny’s road to be a unique and historic style of accommodation, somewhere not quite like any where we have stayed before.
Gillian made us feel at home and welcome throughout our whole stay. Starting from a warm greeting and tour, we got to know all about this Original bluestone farm house, built back in the 1800s. The farmhouse is a combination of 3 rooms all side by side, the rooms are linked by the same roof although have no internal doors. All three rooms are completely different, a kitchen living area which still has the original baker’s oven intact, which is perfect for a late night movie and chill, the bedroom and our favourite, the bathroom, which has an Old Danish fire and original claw bath tub.
We stayed at penny’s road during the months of winter, which meant our activity’s consisted of romantic baths by the fire, we also snuggled up in the living room where we found a large collection of books, DVD’s, wifi and a tv to provide some entertainment. In the morning we were woken to the sounds of different animals and birds, enjoyed the country farm fresh air, and roamed around the farm with Gillian meeting some of the many animals on the property, including Nancy the goat, a flock of geese and 2 stunning Icelandic horses.
Our highlight of penny’s would have to be the home cooked meals Gillian prepared for us throughout our stay and the storyies she told of this old cottage. All dishes were delicious and paired with beautiful wine. She used fresh and local ingredients, lots are even grown here herself on the property. We couldn’t recommend Gillian’s cooking more and this really added to our experience at Penny’s farm.
Only a short drive from the Barossa, where so many beautiful winery’s stand. A great opportunity to meet more locals and taste some amazing wines.
All in all a peaceful, unique, breath of fresh air kind of stay- with an insight to the olden days.
